For 12 years, Benicio Coronel Gastelo has been a dedicated coffee producer in La Lima, Querocoto. Nestled among the mountains, Benicio and his wife have built a life rooted in perseverance. Through his passion for coffee, Benicio has provided an education for his two children, instilling in them a deep respect for their heritage. To Benicio, coffee is a family legacy that grows with every harvest on his farm, located in this unique high-altitude region. This is our first season buying coffee from Benicio. Red Fox Coffee helped Benicio produce this lot, and were able to bring it to us. We have been working with Red Fox for over a decade, and have purchased 75% of our Peruvian offerings through them. Their attention and drive in this part of the world is what really allows them to shine as a coffee producer, and we are proud to continually work with them in this region specifically.

Querocoto is a remote district in Cajamarca’s Chota province. Reaching the area requires a flight to Chiclayo followed by a five-hour drive on paved roads. Though geographically close to the famous coffee hub of Jaén, Querocoto’s landscape and history are distinct. Historically, the area was centered on cattle ranching, a legacy of its expansive pastures and a cold climate driven by an average altitude of 2,300 meters above sea level.
