Guama Factory is located in Kirinyaga County near Mt. Kenya and is part of the Baragwi Farmers Cooperative Society, which comprises 12 wet mills and over 16,000 registered members. Established in 1974, the factory processes coffee cherries from 3,500 smallholder farmers growing SL34 and SL28 varieties, with varietal separation. Renowned for meticulous processing, Guama Factory transforms cherries into green coffee seeds using high-quality fermentation and drying techniques.
This region benefits from mineral-rich volcanic and sandy soils, high elevations, and a cooperative-driven system that ensures competitive prices for quality coffee. Baragwi Cooperative, registered in 1953, promotes the socio-economic interests of its members, processing and exporting coffee while offering better market access. With a workforce of 137 and a farmer-elected board, the society consistently produces some of the finest Kenyan coffees.
